Why are we allowing it?
I know why right-wing champions and religious extremists are winning elections in India. It’s because religious intolerance was always there, barely hidden but now that there are people in ‘authority’ who are of the same ilk it’s out, rampaging around the countryside.
But why in the land of Ataturk has Erdogan been elected again and again? Why have they elected an extremist who is willing to kill people and drag Turkey back into the 18th Century?
After getting their freedom from unholy structures like the KGB why have the people of Russia elected a man who was trained and indoctrinated by the KGB?
Why on earth would the people of the United States even consider electing a known and self-proclaimed racist, right-wing, lying, cheating crook of a businessman? Or for that a whole host of rich, white old men who want to take away a woman’s reproductive rights?
Why are the people of Pakistan willing to put up with the horrors of military rule or the rule of the 10,000 richest people in the country which has led to such poverty that even Saudi Arabia has asked them to get their act together?
Why would the people of the United Kingdom actually vote to separate from their biggest trading partner, lower their standard of living, and vote for a known liar and elistist to bring about Brexit?
Iceland has ousted a liberal Prime Minister because it was a woman and the old white men couldn’t take that.
Ditto NewZealand.
Africa is a thorough-going mess of corrupt old black men who can’t help their countries take advantage of the wealth of natural resources they contain but can build large Swiss Bank accounts.
What is wrong with Humanity? Why can’t decent people ever take power and rule with decency?
And if we don’t, we know where we are going to end up, right?
