Thank God I paid no heed to my father and made absolutely no effort to move to the United States back in the 80s. I would have found myself living as a third class citizen amongst a horde of Yahoos who despite being the descendants of immigrants hate immigrants. I don't think the concept of irony even exists in the USA.
