In India, we get that sort of rain every year during the monsoon. I remember once going out for a weekend to the countryside and it didn't stop raining for 48 hours. More than scary, I find it depressing and joyful.

Grey, darkness at noon and no blue skies at all. In some towns, the streets flood. In Mumbai (Bombay) people walk several kilometres to work because the trains and buses stop working.

Happiness because the farmers need the rain and there's nothing more enjoyable than the smell of petrichor (that smell after the first rain).

I don't suppose New York is used to it though.
