I agree with you on Barry Lyndon. I've always described it as a 'boa constrictor of a movie.' Once it has got you into its clutches, you can pull yourself away. I don't know about Eyes Wide Shut. I just thought it was too abstract and Tom Cruise was entirely wrong for the role, although I feel Nicole Kidman is a very underrated actress. Perhaps some cultural nuances that I didn't catch on to.
